Brumbies FAQ Winter 2024

We are a family friendly club run by volunteers and we are growing fast! We have teams from Under 10’s to Under 19’s and let’s not forget about the men’s & women’s teams. 😉

Please check out the club’s website: www.ballanbrumbies.com.au

Below are several frequently asked questions, you may find helpful:

How seasons are there?

There are two seasons (Winter & Summer) Children can play both seasons or choose to play only one season if they play other sports.

What age group or grade will my child be allocated?

This depends on your child’s DOB at the time of joining, their ability and how many age groups we have at the time. The coaches allocate your child to the appropriate team to suit their fitness level, skills and understanding of the game.

If your child/children are new to basketball, they will learn a long the way at training with their coach and by playing alongside children who have experience. The club is very supportive and friendly.

Age Group:

A player’s age group is based on the age they will turn during the calendar year that the season is part of. The 2023/2024 Summer Season starts in October, a player’s age group will be determined by the age that they turn 2024, not 2023.

For Example: Player A turned 11 in September 2023, because Player A turns 12 during the year that all or part of the season is played in, the player must play in Under 14’s.

How does grading work?

At the start of every season, the coaches will allocate every Brumbies team a Grade.

Once the season starts, the first 3-4 games of the season for every basketball club is called “Grading”.

This means that the grade allocated to the team may change based on how the teams perform during grading and the decision is made by Basketball Ballarat and the clubs’ coaches.
